According to my sister, our family ancestors were a rich bunch being the 1st and 2nd pure breed Singapore generation. Is there such a term at all, Pure Breed Sg Gen? Rich probably cos my great great ancestors served the imperial courts during the Qing times. Unfortunately, the wealth is not extended down! Anyway, Grams has gone to join them. Hope she goes without regrets.

She's Gone
It came so suddenly when an uncle called us in tears telling us things aren't looking good. Rushing over, we were more or less wondering if it could be a false alarm. But gram's condition really look bad when we arrived. Her delirious state was a 180 degree turn from a day before and we could tell that she was wrenching in immense pain. Things just didn't look good from that moment despite increased dosage of morphine.
As I held her hands, I detected her drop in temperature and I looked to my dad. He knew what was on my mind. She was running such a high fever from our arrival to that sudden drop in temperature within a few hours span. I took it as a impending sign... I could only do a silent prayer seeing her struggle in pain.
She went while dad was in the room with her. Everything then became more or less a blur. Everyone called out to her, but garner no response. I checked for a pulse, but there was none.
I had to bid my last good bye.
Friday Outing
So glad that wenwu's exams are finally over! Haven't been singing with him for ages (I miss singing with him so much)! Though this time it is with my colleagues, it like a kickstart prelude to our future KTV sessions again! Hopefully he is able to finish his stuff before we zip off for our holiday. Plans to Taiwan have to be put on hold as we are unable to get hold of tickets during our available time period. Will opt for a simpler option not too far away still. Keeping our fingers crossed.

German R&D lab in NTU
By Chua Hian Hou , Technology Correspondent
GERMANY'S Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the R&D giant known for its work on the MP3 digital music format, will set up a new $10 million institute to conduct research in digital media at the Nanyang Technological University.
The Fraunhofer Singapore institute will employ 20 researchers when it opens mid-2010, NTU and Fraunhofer announced on Wednesday.
More will be hired later to do cutting-edge research in computer graphics and virtual reality as part of its foray into Asia, said Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research's director, Professor Dieter Fellner.
The number will be upped to 50 by 2013, and possibly even more over time, said Prof Fellner.
Some possible research areas include new ways to capture every single possible detail of 'cultural heritage' objects, like a historical building or other artifact digitally, so that future generations can experience them even when the physical item is gone.
Fraunhofer, which specialises in developing commercial applications out of cutting-edge academic research, is Europe's biggest research body with an annual research budget of 1.5 billion euros. It employs over 10,000 full-time researchers in its 60 research institutes.

Helpless
I think back of the time when I got my first puppy. I made promises never to forsake him despite it being an impulse purchase. From that very moment, I found a new passion in this group of beings. My heart went out to all shapes, sizes and breeds. Strangely enough, I even started liking cats (Used to hate them). My pet kick-started my lesson on unconditional love. How amazing it is that they are always giving and never expecting returns.
Then this love and passion extended towards the helpless and voiceless bunch. It's quite heart wrenching to read stories of animal/stray abuses, moreso when the subject is a dog. How can man be so cruel to another being that is selfless in giving love? They will only defend when they feel attacked. So far in my encounters with strays, I always end up being the receipient of their affection.
I have personally encounted cases of strays being poisoned to death slowly.... dying horribly... trapped in boars' traps.... Pet dogs left to fend for themselves suddenly in the wild... You name it. They really don't have a voice to represent themselves. Who can they turn to when there's injustice carried out? =(
Coming back to this sneak and sly.... From various accounts of him, he seemed to have started off befriending strays most of the time, making them believe that he is a friend not foe. When the trust is established, that is where hell starts for these creatures.
So what if he is really from the Authorities??! He is never empowered to deliver cruelty in such a manner. How we wish there were clearer pictures of his acts so that proper prosecution can follow.
TMD!
I will so LOOK OUT for you!!!!
K... Vent finish. Shall go give cai cai an extra hug.

Drivers, Have you noticed...
At 6:58pm, I was on AYE traveling towards SGH on Clementi Ave 6, the sky was overcast and raining.
I was wondering how come the roads seemed so much darker than usual and I realised the lamps were not turned on. I had thought that perhaps they only turn them on at 7pm sharp. But yet again, the street lamps on the other side of the traffic was already on. At another stretch, my side was on and the opposite side off. This happened a few times already when I travelled with wen wu too.
Just curious, is Singapore trying to conserve energy? If we are, it isn't a bad thing huh.
Where to go?
Wenwu and I discussed about Taiwan but it's expensive to go during Dec leh. Headache!
Scouring the internet like mad for good deals. Never so hardworking at compiling spreadsheets.
PROMOTIONS!!!! Where art thou?

October Updates
Jerine's Wedding
The bride and her entourage. We were laughing as it was our turn to be pranked upon by the brothers. Did the Nobody dance. Well we showed them what it was to do it professionally. LOL. 90% are dancers k... Dun play play.

Groom was prepared. Cost of replacing a new gate cost much less than the angbaos for the sisters. Smart but too bad, ang baos are still a necessity for entrance.

These guys are full of funny ideas. They came armed with a thousand one dollar coins to bribe their way through. Should have really confiscated that prop!

Guy's good morning version of Nobody to the entire neighbourhood.

The cute note delivery guy.

Cai and Daz Outing @ Bishan Park
Big peers at the park.
Apparently they only display brotherly love when they are out but not at home.
Meeting another of his kind. Daz is definitely unruly looking... lol
Thirsty duo after so much fun.
Resting before they go for their 2nd round of play.
爱琴海's Theme Night - 张惠妹精选
With Meihui, the other singer in my batch.

And of cos never forget a picture with Evonne!

My next session at 爱琴海 is this coming Friday 7:30pm! Come if you can but be sure to be early. The previous friday I sang was so packed that some had to be turned away. Never seen it so packed before.
While it was originality at its best, I thought it could have been nicer if there was the element of surprise. "Treasure hunt" can also don't reveal the finale first ma. Alot of people think it's romantic. Romantic meh? Afterall, his gf did know what was installed at the end of it. I supposed Alvin knows her well enough to be gamed on a proposal like that. At least the female lead is happy.
I may be making a general statement, but I think most gals are happy with a simple proposal without such a big hoo ha. What matter most is the sincerity isn't it? With all the actions done, now these 2 have to undergo so many post media scrutiny and interviews. Tiring leh...

However, the wenwu effect is slowly getting to her. She's starting to panic and trying to spend lesser than usual. Hopefully the amount status will go from miserable to an okay?
Cannot go out of job ah! Boo Hoo!!!

Beijing and Back
Arrival at the Beijing International Airport and I was requested by the immigration officer to remove my spectacles. I look so different without my specs meh. Hopefully the reason being I've grown nicer looking! lol... My passport photo darn ugly lor....
So relieved to be off the plane. Was getting quite bored and restless on board after watching "The talking of Pelham" Sis can't wait to snap us as we approached the arrival gate.

My baby sister all grown up in a foreign land.

Drag Drag Drag... I want my rest.

Okay... I got into some difficulty hauling my luggage down the steps. Even dragging it down slope was a hassle.

What's left of the luggage after removing almost 80% of my sister's stuff. I think I make a good fedex delivery man.

Our first dinner in Beijing at the famous 全聚德 for Peking Duck.

Happily allowing my sister to snap away. Contentment after a long flight.

Don't look much but the portions are big. We had leftovers and felt guilty about it. The Chinese people there really eat alot!

Back in my sister's living quarters I was playing the fool with her medical equipment daydreaming about being a doc too.

We were fortunate to have my sister's bedroom facing Tian An Men's direction. We had fireworks the entire night away. The fireworks were fantastic! There were so many kinds and even smiley face ones. PRO!

2nd Oct
Destination: Tian An Men Square, the forbidden palace and Shopping
Needless to say, everywhere was just crazily crowded.

Shots near the Tian An Men. The local authorities made the place into a flowery heaven.

Sky's exceptionally blue and cloudless! Pretty!

Who's that?

Role-playing mode: How can I not wear my headgear when I am heading back to the palace?

Daydreaming: Yeah! I'm back home. I'm looking forward to see my 皇上.

Alas! 慈宁宫 was out of bounds. I cannot pay my respects to 老佛爷. But thankfully, I managed to locate my bedroom. I'm one hell of an excitement. But where's my 皇上?

Apparently, this is the highest standing point in the palace ground for concubines when they are home sick. They will look into the direction of their hometown and reminisce.

Me: You know ah... I was here blah blah blah blah...
Sis: Sighz.... there she goes again.

We went to Xi Dan after the forbidden palace. Look at the crowd!

A Hugely recommended place! Going there, one must sha sha sha! Slash prices like mad. I must say one have to really have thick skin. It is like a huge market place there. I've got boots for like SGD 10 each and bags for SGD 7 each. Great bargains huh! Apart from this place, try the 明珠市场 as well. Everything's so bargainable there!

Back in my sister's room:

Look at that glee.

What's so fun about poking oneself...

3rd Oct
Destination: The Great Wall (慕田峪)
We woke up religiously at 5am and started our journey at 6am to the subway station.
Sister and I had already planned to go to a much less visited stretch of the Great Wall to avoid the huge crowd anticipated at BaDaLing.
At the subway, eating is not prohibited! Glee! So I kept munching away at my pancake for the long journey ahead.

We took an hour plus to reach 怀柔 by bus 916 and then switch to a minibus to the base of the Great Wall. Total journey time was around 3 hours.
Driver: Rmb 100 for all 3 of you.
Dad: Too expensive.
Driver: Rmb 25 each then.
Me: Okay! (with glee as I thought we got the so called optimum price stated in Lonely planet)
But alas! I forgot that Lonely Planet is written by Ang Mos!!! I found out at the end that we were paying 5 times the local price. Although Rmb 25 for that hour's ride isn't that much too la. Remember to negotiate down.

The start of the entrance. So scenic...

So full of anticipation to one of the greatest constructions in the world. The only one visible from space.

Man made limestone cave at the entrance.

The start of a long ascend....

It took us about an hour's climb to reach the base of the Great Wall. Shiok weather!

Happily eating home made mooncake atop the Great Wall.

Absolutely breath-taking. (The walk also takes away your breath. quah quah quah)

Although we were so tired, we still insisted on the jumping shots.

I believe I can fly... I believe I can touch the sky.

We climbed to a point we thought was the highest after some 2 hour plus, we saw this...
Words on the slope reads "终于毛主席" (Loyalty to Chairman Mao)

It was what we coined "The unforgiving stretch".... Barely anyone up there...

We gave up on that stretch. It was too tiring by then. We vowed to return to conquer that!

Back at the base of the hill, we had our names drawn!

And we saw a familiar sight! Subway! Eat Fresh!!!
We spent a good 10 hours for the entire Great Wall trip. I cannot help but keep wanting to iterate! Must Must Must go to the Great Wall at least once in your lifetime. It is definitely worth all the efforts. The return trip back was terrible very much due to my stupidity. I shan't emphasize why, but we ended up having to stand a whole 40 mins on the bus. That was so tiring especially after "conquering" the Wall.
Tired as it is, we pushed our limits to continue walking around to make good of our day. We saw Raffles City!!! A piece of home! We can't not visit right?

Inside the lift of Raffles city

The so called atas meal at an Italian Restaurant. Delicious!

4th Oct
Work and more work at The Orchard of Beijing, Wang Fu Jing Street.

Delicacies... anyone?

Man I was god damn tired on the 4th day and my legs were literally giving up on me. So I allowed my sister to practise acupuncture on me....

Me: ..... I feel it.... I feel it.... Darn that small needle alone numbed the entire right leg...

Then it's work work and work for me!!!!

Double Standards
Now that she is in a critical condition, I can't help but not wanna vent my frustrations at the double standards in the recent H1N1 precaution steps taken at SGH.
A few days back, me and my mother were turned away by the staff for not sticking to the visiting hours and they only allow 8 nominated family members to visit the patient (only 2 at any one time). Anyone out of that 8 named ones are totally restricted from entrance. And I am one of those shut out totally. I believe mainly it was the stubborn manager overseeing the guy servicing us that stopped our entrance that day. He was just so adamant when I told him that my grandma is really not feeling well and was told that my excuse was not valid. @#$%! I would have stayed on till the next visit hour slot if not for that stupid 8 nominees rule.
What really added fuel to my fire was the fact that the other receptionists allowed other people to go pass. Just because we were "suay" to have the manager standing right behind our guy, we were denied entry. KNN! We didn't try to kick up a din since it was a place for rehabilation and rest. Now I kinda regretted not trying harder to gain entry.
And now SGH finally decided to over-ride this ruling because they felt that she probably has limited time. I understand the need to enforce certain rules, but if the rules were bent for some people and not for others, then why have it in place then.
The 8 nominees rule is darn ridiculous lor. My ah ma alone has got more than 10 children. Like that how? We fight amongst ourselves to gain entry ah? It made sense initially that only 2 visitors are allowed at a time, then this 8 nominees rule kicked in. How does limiting to 8 nominees minimise the outspread of a virus? How?

Enjoyed myself pretty much. Though wen wu felt a little apologetic for not being able to accompany us throughout, I thought it was okay. Afterall, its his bro's big day.
Wen wu's so cute today. Dunno why but I thought his little actions were really sweet. =P

Zhun Buay Zhun
Try this: http://www.goldinuniverse.com/
Apparently many of my friends found it accurate. For me it's like half half.
The Results
You feel worn out, physically and mentally. Recently the going has been tough and it looks as if there is still a considerable way for you to go before you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. If only you could put a protecting wall around yourself and cut yourself off from the rest of the world - be it even for only a little while - how wonderful it would be, but you can't - so you need to bear with it. Just when everything will seem at its lowest ebb you will find that there is a turnabout and your problems will seem to find a way of resolving themselves.
~Pretty okay given the past months' downs. And all my problems seem to be slowly resolving themselves. =)
You are very talented, imaginative and sensitive but you are holding back as you do not really like going it 'on your own'. In preference you would like to team up with someone, someone with similar attributes as your own, to explore - to seek out and go perhaps 'where no other man has trod before'. It is the unusual that attracts you and which will give you a sense of excitement and adventure.
~ True to some extend. But it depends on the endeavor I embark on ma. I definitely enjoy shopping by myself if nobody is free. Used to be easily excitable about new ideas, now I'm like a mellowed winter melon (dun ask me why winter melon, it just popped out of my head).
You are not an argumentative sort of person and 'rather than fight - you'd switch' (an old cigarette ad cliche). But when you try to assert yourself - as sometimes you may try to do - you meet with so much resistance and effrontery that manifests itself so obviously that you become hurt, indignant and resentful. So in order to have peace and quiet you tend to become inhibited. You keep it all to yourself but deep down, you 'feel' and 'hurt' a lot.
~ Eh... I super argumentative at times lor.... I cannot take it lying down if someone really takes it too far. But on the contrary, I can the most shui bian person in a group. BUT I don't keep it all to myself, it shows up like makeup on my face. I DON'T hurt alot lor. Hurt makes one ugly. Muahahaha.. Shoo Shoo the negatives. I'm contented with my life right now!
It would seem that an existing situation or relationship is unsatisfactory and you feel that there is little that you can do about it without 'some help from your friends', but you have no desire to show the world how vulnerable you really are and therefore you consider it inadvisable to display affection or be over demonstrative. You regard this particular relationship as a depressing tie and although you would like to be independent and unhampered, you don't want to run the risk of losing anything. All this leads you to react 'touchily' and with impatience, while the urge to 'get away from it all' results in considerable restlessness and stress. Your ability to concentrate may suffer.
~ Choi! Ah Nia is happy k. Not intending to run away at all. Who runs away from happiness? I must be out of my mind to do so. Buay Zhun!
You need to be needed and would like a situation where you will no longer be subjected to pressures and demands from those about you. There is no harm in 'dreaming' but it is you - and only you - that can be able to realise those dreams and to turn them into reality.

心胸狭窄?
Something interesting came up while I was chatting with wen wu over msn. He had merely borrowed the above quote from our prime minister's speech into his facebook wall and immediately garnered, what I thought was a defensive reaction. They weren't direct replies to his quoted message but instead, the person took a dig (maybe not the right word) at our photos.
I must admit that I was initially pretty fed up when I saw the comments to our pictures. Who would appreciate if someone plastered words like "there is a god", "miracles do happen" on pictures of you and your bf???
Hello?? What is so miraculous about 2 people in a shot? Read already also feel abit 莫名其妙 right. Eh... I know there's a God lor... But what has he gotta do with our pictures? I really don't get it.
It only dawned on me after wen wu told me these comments came after he posted the quote on his wall. Wah lao... Reply to the wall msg directly la can?
Even in forums, there's such a thing call off topic lor. You get suaned or even a "tongue lash" by forummers if you post in the wrong section hor.

Where's my ah gal?
People are always like that hur, only when you don't have it anymore, you start treasuring it.
I miss my sista! I only know that she has arrived in Beijing safe and sound, but I can't help thinking if she is coping or eating well. I can imagine how much more grown up (mentally) she will be when she comes back. Aigoo....

Kiddo BY2 and Assistant Producer ME!

Yah it's just your usual Children's CD that you see in shops last time. But...... Lets zoom in closer... Do you see anything?

Anyway! The most important thing was! I was the assistant producer of this CD before! Way back in 1999.
Am kinda surprised to see this CD again. My mom had it well preserved. LOL. Was an interesting experience then..

AnkhMap
Getting to love using the ankhmap. If you have visited the link above and equate it similar to facebook then I guess you have missed it's point.
I'm an avid facebook user. I simply love it's convenience and interface. However, I recently discovered ankhmap has its cute features as well, something that facebook has yet to incorporate.
For people like me who often lose track of time and when certain events occur in my life, the ankhmap is my rescue remedy. It was amazing to look back in time and watch all the events unfold again. This time, you get all participants of that event relating their side story and feelings about it.
It's such a great way to keep track of the mood and fun then. Nice memories ought not only to be kept by the limited capacity of our memory power but also to be shared with others! I miss the times seriously...
Disclaimer: I'm not a promoter for ankhmap in case you think I am.

The one thing I learnt is that what goes around comes around. Some things just have to be overcomed.
I hate my intuition sometimes. Maybe being ignorant afterall can have its pros.

Jiahui and Keith's Wedding
Was tasked to be one of her 姐妹s on that very special day. Needless to say I was honoured to be part of the team. Having known her for decades (yah la... decades but we are not old k), I was ready to go all out to make sure the groom gets it tough. muahhahaha.. I am thankful that she had confidence that I could contribute nicely given my recent low.
Apart from Weiling, I've only met the rest of the girls on that very day but I must say we make a good team.

As usual, we can't wait to take pictures with the beautiful bride. Her gown's so lovely!!!!!!
